Accreditation and Rankings

One of the top 20 Universities in the World, the University of Edinburgh and the School of Engineering offer world leading teaching and research in Engineering and Science.

The University of Edinburgh

The latest international university rankings have confirmed Edinburgh's position as a leading global institution.

The QS World Rankings 2013/14, announced on 10 September, have placed the University 17th in the world, a rise of four places compared to the previous year and Edinburgh’s highest-ever ranking.

The news comes as Edinburgh announced record levels of investment to help fund its pioneering work.

Figures just released show that the University was awarded £300 million in competitive research grants in 2012/13, 20% more than the £250 million it secured in 2011/12.

The School of Engineering

Not only was the School ranked third (Research Fortnight Power Analysis) in General Engineering in the UK Research Assessment Exercise (2008), but it also has a strong track record in producing more than 50 technology spin-outs and developing industry links that enable our graduates to build relationships that last a whole career.

In 2011/2012 the School was successful in achieving £28m research awards/income.

REF 2014

The University of Edinburgh welcomed the outstanding results of REF2014 for the Edinburgh Research Partnership in Engineering (ERPE). 94% of our overall research activity is world-leading or internationally excellent. This, combined with the number of academic staff involved, makes Edinburgh the UK powerhouse in Engineering.
