Benjamin Ralph is a PhD student at the BRE Centre for Fire Safety Engineering at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He is also the Fire Group Buddy System Chair, the Fire Group Social Media Chair and a tutor for "Fire Science and Fire Dynamics" and "Fire Safety Engineering Analysis and Design".
Benjamin's PhD project is the study, development and validation of coupled hybrid fire models. The project aims to address the risks embodied in the computational requirement to curtail the domain of a building element when carrying out CFD-based fire modelling.
Benjamin obtained his MEng (Civil Engineering) from University of Southampton in 2008 and his PGDip (Fire Safety Engineering) from University of Ulster in 2014. Benjamin has been a practicing fire safety engineer in the UK and in Australia for almost 10 years and has worked on a wide range of large and complex projects. He undertook a Guest Researcher position at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 2016 and is a Developer of Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS).
