Policy

  1. It is the Policy of School of Engineering and Electronics to migrate to storing all new internal documents and core teaching material in the OASIS standard document format by September 2006.
  2. The School will standardise on the OpenOffice suite for producing such work.

Mar 2003
OpenOffice becomes the office tools component of School core application set and becomes available on all systems configured by IT team.
Oct 2004
As part of the rolling upgrade cycle, academic staff begin trialing the suite for everyday work.
Feb 2004
All systems configured by IT team Unix/Linix/MS_windows have OpenOffice v1.1 loaded native. EUCS Microlabs support the same stable release.
March 2004
The School per se ceases funding of any purchase of MS-Office licences.
May 2004
The college support team deliver training to the School Weds 5th May, 2pm, LT1

July 2004
Update all EETO machines to current standards.
From June 2004
Recommendation to all staff that all new lecture material is prepared using OpenOffice.
From August 2004
All exam papers for 2004-5 session are to be submitted in OpenOffice format.

Interim

In the interim, the version of MS-Office used should not advance beyond Office XP. Use of Office 2003 is very strongly discouraged.
[The School joined MS-Campus-3 scheme in June 2004, enabling copies of MS Office to be upgraded to MS-Office-XP for the interim period.]
