UnixMenu

UnixMenu is a menu-driven interface to Unix X-Applications. It is written in Tk and provides a simple interface to allow a user to select multiple applications to run. It is primarily designed to work with Exceed and SSH to allow Windows users to have a graphical interface to commonly used applications.

UnixMenu also provides a replacement for the old Requisitions icon on Windows desktops. You should delete the Requisitions icon from your desktop, and then folow the instructions below to use UnixMenu instead.

Unix/Linux Users

UnixMenu is installed in /home/apps/UnixSession, and can be launched by running:

perl /home/apps/UnixSession/UnixMenu.pl

Windows Users

Windows users must have already installed Exceed in order to use UnixMenu. To do this, follow the instructions Here

To use UnixMenu, navigate to n:\packages\UnixSession and double-click on the UnixMenu.bat icon. Enter your username and password, and UnixMenu should launch.

You can drag and drop the UnixMenu.bat icon to your desktop and create a shortcut to UnixMenu if you wish to have easy access in future.

Custom Menus

you can customise your own copy of UnixMenu by creating a custom menu file in your home area, called .unixmenu (~/.unixmenu for unix users, n:\myhome\.unixmenu for Windows users). This file will be merged with the global menu when UnixMenu starts. This file should take the following form:

Application-Name+Unix-Command+Description

e.g XEyes+/usr/local/pack/X11/bin/xeyes+X-Window test utility

Separator is +. Comments should begin with #. Blank lines will be ignored.

For an example, see the sessions.txt file in n:\packages\UnixSession (/home/apps/UnixSession/)
