Job Description

Edinburgh Innovations (EI) are looking for a driven and proven professional to join the Business Development team for the School of Engineering, supporting 3 research institutes:

Research within the institutes span the fields of semiconductors, optical systems, photonics, robotics, health technologies, industrial biotechnology, biomechanics, multiphase flows and computational fluid mechanics.This is a diverse and rewarding role requiring a confident and motivated individual with experience in higher education, industrial engagement and research funding opportunities.

The Opportunity

Edinburgh Innovations Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary company of the University of Edinburgh, responsible for pre-award research support services, management of technology transfer activities, consultancy services, company formation, and company incubation facilities.

As part of the Business Development team, you will be joining a team of 20+ supportive colleagues and a wider company of 130+ professionals supporting technology transfer, consultancy, and company formation.

In this role you will be responsible for leading and supporting commercial activity at one the UK’s highest ranked research Schools. The key priorities in this role will be to engage with industrial partners, early career researchers and renowned experts in their field.

    • Ability to demonstrate an understanding and passion for Engineering research
    • Knowledge and/or experience of working in engineering fields of semiconductors, photonics, robotics, health technologies, industrial biotechnology, biomechanics, multiphase flows and fluid mechanics would be advantageous
    • Business Development and commercial experience, ideally in both industry and academic organisations in the engineering or traditional sciences sector
    • Demonstrable client relationship management experience, including working with partners to build on success
    • Ability to manage a broad and diverse portfolio of industry and academic relationships,
    • A desire to provide a high level of service and establish trust across the research community.
    • Ability to confidently present on matters relating to IP protections, industrial engagement and research expertise
