The Institute for Energy Systems (IES) from the School of Engineering is looking to recruit a Research Associate on an EPSRC funded project. The successful applicant will work on the development of novel control strategies for tidal current turbines to improve reliability, resulting in a reduction in overall cost of energy. The R&D is focused on developing novel algorithms for controlling the generator and analysis of the impact of the proposed algorithm on the electrical power output. The successful applicant will also investigate the energy storage requirements for power smoothing in different grid conditions and conduct both modelling and experimental work.
Applicants should have a PhD in Electrical Engineering (or close to submission) and have extensive experience on tidal current turbine modelling.
The position is full time and fixed term for 16 months. The post it available immediately.
