One Giant Step for Maggie's Centre

Congratulations to Tina McAvoy, who works in the Engineering Teaching Organisation, for overcoming her fear of heights to raise money for the Maggie's Centre, Edinburgh by abseiling 165 feet (just over 50 metres) down the Forth Rail Bridge on Sunday 16th June 2013.

Here is Tina's account of the event:

'Despite the nerves kicking in on the drive to South Queensferry, I am pleased to be able to let you know that last Sunday I successfully completed the abseil!

I am not ashamed to say that I was absolutely petrified when I got onto the bridge and had serious doubts as to whether I would be able to let go of the railings. But, with the climbing staff telling our group that that morning no-one had yet walked back down the steps of shame, I was even more determined to do it!! And wow, I am so so pleased that I did, because the experience was amazing and the view was breathtaking. I enjoyed it so much, that I am already looking to sign up again for it next year!! If anybody wants to volunteer with me, I can tell you that it is certainly an experience that you will never forget! '
