Optimisation and Comparison of Direct Drive Linear Generators for Wave Energy
The design and optimisation of linear generators for wave energy applications, taking account of both electromagnetic and structural aspects is my main area of interest. Linear generators are a possible alternative to mechanical or hydraulic power take-off systems for wave energy converters. However, considering only the electromagnetic aspects of their design can result in large and expensive machines. By considering structural, thermal and electromagnetic aspects concurrently it is hoped that more efficient and reliable power take-off systems can be developed. To this end I consider these aspects in combined optimisation procedures based on evolutionary computing.
