Biography: 

Bill is a post doctoral researcher within the Institute of Energy Systems interested in industrial instrumentation, process control strategies and novel plant configurations for post-combustion capture technologies used in electricity generation and industrial processes. He is currently developing novel chemical analysis instruments and methods for use at industrial scale post combustion capture plants through an EPSRC Impact Acceleration project. Bill is also involved in several collaborative and multi-disciplinary projects:

Bill's PhD research project (COMCAT) was sponsored by the Energy Technology Partnership and Doosan Power Systems where Bill investigated control systems, instrumentation, and chemical analysis challenges associated with the flexible operation of post-combustion capture plants. Throughout his studies he was able to visit and work at many of the world's best carbon capture research facilities, including the Ferrybridge Carbon Capture Pilot and the National Carbon Capture Center.

Prior to starting his PhD, Bill served in scientific research and product development roles in both the public and private sector as well as gained some experience at a technology based venture capital fund. In his spare time Bill enjoys playing for the Edinburgh City Men's Lacrosse Team and tinkering embedded systems and micro-computers.
