Professional Qualifications and Memberships:

  • Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA)

Teaching:

  • Year 4/5,  Water and Wastewater Systems 4
  • Year 3, Conceptual Design and Sustainability 3
  • Year 2, Environmental Engineering and Sustainability 2

Research Interests:

My research focuses on the development of  sustainable technologies for water and wastewater treatment. I have led research projects on the removal of emerging contaminants, such as microplastics, endocrine disruptors, and pharmaceuticals from water and wastewater by means of physical and chemical processes. I have extensively explored treatment of recalcitrant industrial and agro-industrial wastewater by biological and catalytic oxidation technologies. Also, I have developed disinfection technologies, including UV treatment and solar photocatalysis, for various types of water. I have carried out life cycle assessment (LCA) of treatment technologies, cultivation techniques and construction materials to estimate their environmental sustainability, identify hotspots and propose alternative more environmentally friendly practices in process development.

Specialities:

  • Wastewater treatment
  • Water disinfection
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Advanced oxidation processes
  • Photocatalysis
  • Electrolysis
  • Life cycle assessment
  • Microplastics
