In this multi-disciplinary project, the successful candidate will concentrate on non-contact handling of fine powders. We are interested in stabilisation and uniform bulk delivery of micron-sized particles with application to advanced manufacturing processes. To achieve this, phased transducer arrays will be designed including the required control systems. During their PhD the successful candidate will develop a prototype to demonstrate the feasibility of the designs and the developed control systems.

At least a 2:1 Undergraduate degree in mechanical/electromechanical/electrical engineering, physics, or closely related subject areas (MSc/MEng preferred). Strong lab and computer skills. Some experience in programming/using Raspberry Pi, Arduino or other SBCs/MCUs is required. Additionally, experience in any of the following would be beneficial
• Fine powder handling and characterisation
• Aeroacoustics
• FPGA programming
• Machine learning
