PhD in Fire Science and Fire Dynamics

We are seeking applications from candidates with an interest in topics including fire science, fire engineering, material flammability, fire spread, fire behaviour of timber buildings, smouldering combustion, wildfires, fire behaviour of composite materials, and high temperature behaviour of bonds/adhesives. Candidates should have an interest in experimental fire research and/or numerical simulation of fire phenomena.

The funding and support for this project is not limited to a specific topic. Candidates with an interest in any of the above topics, and a wide range of academic backgrounds will be considered on their merits.

The Edinburgh Fire Research Centre has a team of over twenty researchers working on a variety of research projects from detailed studies of fundamental combustion processes through to the application of fire safety engineering in practice. Experimental research is largely conducted in the Rushbrook Fire Laboratory.
