Smart MEMS and Microsystems Technology Research Theme
Ian Underwood carried out pioneering research and development in the field of liquid crystal microdisplays between 1983 and 1999.
His early career achievements were recognized by:
Dr Jonathan G. Terry is the Deputy Head of the Engineering Graduate School at the University of Edinburgh. He joined the School of Engineering in early 1999 as a Post-doctoral Research Associate and later became a Chancellor’s Fellow.
The design of energy efficient embedded communication centric devices for internet –of-thing as well as emerging smart and wearable mobile devices
Our vision is to treat platform silicon IC technology as a commodity element of the system with the value added part being the bespoke post-processing and the associated IP.
This equipment and the research staff are located in the Scottish Microelectronics Centre (SMC), a purpose built facility at the University's Science and Engineering campus at King's Buildings.
The SMC provides extensive cleanroom facilities with a full semiconductor/MEMS fabrication toolset and the ability to host staff from external organisations.
