What do you wish you'd worried about less about coming to university?

Looking back, I wish I had worried less about adapting to the academic environment and research work. 

What one thing would you recommend new students at the University of Edinburgh do?

I recommend new students actively participate in university-led sustainability initiatives. It's a great way to apply theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios.

Embrace every learning opportunity, both in and out of the classroom. The diversity of perspectives at the university is invaluable.

What aspects of student life do you enjoy the most and why?

I enjoy the collaborative learning environment the most. Working with peers from diverse backgrounds on sustainable energy projects is both challenging and rewarding.

I appreciate the university's emphasis on innovative research in sustainable energy, which complements my career goals in the renewable energy sector. 

What do you find most challenging and most rewarding about your programme?

The most challenging aspect is keeping up with the rapidly evolving field of sustainable energy, but it's also the most rewarding as it ensures my knowledge remains cutting-edge. In addition, the quick pace of the semester requires a high level of time management.

What's a 'must do' at the University of Edinburgh?

Attend guest lectures by leading experts in the sustainable energy field. These sessions provide invaluable insights into the industry. In addition, participate in networking events. 

What is your favourite course so far and why?

On of my favourite courses so far is 'Technologies for Sustainable Energy'. This course aligns seamlessly with my professional background and personal interests in renewable energy. It offers a comprehensive understanding of various sustainable technologies, their applications, and their impact on the environment. The course's practical approach, involving case studies and real-world applications, provides deep insights into current and emerging technologies in the sustainable energy sector. This relevance to my career aspirations in renewable energy project management makes it particularly engaging and beneficial.

Can you tell us of any personal of professional achievements during your studies?

During my studies at the University of Edinburgh, I've achieved significant milestones, both personally and professionally. I completed a project on paper on tidal energy, showcasing my skills in applying theoretical knowledge to practical renewable energy solutions, thereby deepening my understanding of marine renewable energy technologies. Additionally, I undertook an extensive literature review on green hydrogen, focusing on cost reduction through optimizing electrolyzers and minimizing the usage of precious materials. This research has implications for the economic viability of green hydrogen as a sustainable energy source. Furthermore, I conducted a system analysis on power systems engineering and economics, integrating renewable energy projects. This work not only honed my analytical skills but also enriched my knowledge about the economical, financial, and environmental aspects of renewable energy projects, paving the way for a comprehensive understanding of the field. These achievements reflect my commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions and my capability to contribute significantly to this critical sector.

The MSc Sustainable Energy Systems program at the University of Edinburgh is superbly equipping me for my future career in multiple ways. It's providing a deep and comprehensive understanding of the sustainable energy sector, blending theoretical knowledge with practical applications. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, from the latest energy technologies to policy and management, ensuring that I am well-versed in all critical aspects of the field. Practical projects, like my work on tidal energy, wind, solar, marine and green hydrogen, allow me to apply theoretical concepts to real-world challenges, fostering skills in problem-solving, project management, and innovation. These projects are not just academic exercises; they reflect the complexities and challenges I will encounter in my professional life. Moreover, the program's focus on the economic, financial, and environmental aspects of renewable energy projects is particularly beneficial.
