Pizza at 13:00 noon, Talks start at 13:10 pm

Talk 1:   YI DING - RF Energy Scavenging
With ample radio transmitters scattered throughout urban landscape, RF energy scavenging emerges as a promising approach to extract energy from propagating radio waves in the ambient environment to continuously charge low power electronics. Conventional RF energy scavenging designs have significant limitations on mobility and space requirement since these systems operate only in presence of physically large antennas and conversion circuits. With the continuous miniaturization of electronics, a system effective in both conversion performance and space requirement is critical. This talk describes the architecture of RF energy scavenging with a focus on the miniaturized antenna and rectifier designs for RF energy scavenging targeting Internet of Things applications.

Talk 2:   ICMTS 2015 - IEEE International Conference on Microelectronic Test Structures
Prof Anthony Walton and Dr Stewart Smith recently attended ICMTS 2015 in Phoenix, Arizona where a number of papers from the University of Edinburgh were presented.  The event is the premier conference devoted to the development, measurement and analysis of test structures providing a forum for designers and users of test structures to discuss recent developments and future directions.  The highlights of the event will be presented.
