We asked some current students and recent graduates to tell us about their experiences of undergraduate study at the School of Engineering.

Chemical Engineering

Claire Richard

Hailing from Malaysia, Claire likes the ‘home away from home’ feeling the University of Edinburgh’s Malaysian Society has given her since moving to the city. Learn more about her student accommodation experiences and her post-graduation plans.

Since enrolling at Edinburgh he has taken advantage of everything that the University has to offer, becoming a Resident Assistant, re-establishing the Mechanical Engineering Society and getting immersed in his studies. Julian Stachura

Julian has taken full advantage of the University of Edinburgh’s many student clubs and societies. Megan Bramwell

Megan feels lucky to have so many green spaces on her doorstep as a student at the University of Edinburgh. From Arthur’s Seat to the Pentland Hills, the Meadows Park and Portobello beach, she discusses her favourite parts of the city and why she chose to study here.

He also explains why he would encourage freshers to try as many extracurricular activities as possible in their first two years at Edinburgh.

What attracted you to the University of Edinburgh and this programme, in particular?

The Civil Engineering programme integrates numerous elements of sustainability and the environment into the degree. Also, the picturesque landscapes of Edinburgh reminded me of Hogwarts!

What do you wish you'd worried about less about coming to university?

I wish I’d worried less about making new friends here because the community in Edinburgh is friendly and easy-going. 

Electronics and Electrical Engineering

Daniel chose to study at the University of Edinburgh because of its world renowned reputation which he hopes will provide him with employment opportunities upon graduation. He discusses balancing his studies with a part time job and his summer placements at Leonardo.

Kai Ferguson
